The job I had pencilled in for the summer holidays was the making of the lawn. It had been roughly graded last year, sprayed off in spring and then left until July when it was sprayed again. I was fortunate to have some dry days in mid August when the major levelling was undertaken by the whole family and it left me just a days work last week to do the fine raking and sow the grass seed. It was so dry on the days immediately following the sowing of the seed that I set up a sprinkler to keep it watered. After three days the sprinkler was redundant, but it did it's job and this week past little green shoots have sprouted. With any luck the lawn will just about get established before growth disappears in November.
